Happy Wednesday! This week we have a very sweet block by Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts. Before we look at Corey's block, I want to share a new book by Moda All Stars, Merry Makers.
Just as summer is ending, this holiday book will hit the shops in a couple of weeks. Whoa! I need a little Fall and Halloween time, thank you very much, but I'm not like the rest of you who probably shop in the summer and can enjoy the Fall and be totally ready for Christmas and the holiday season. I'm never ready.
Pick a project, or three, to make to give, or as a treat for yourself!
This is a great book full of projects of all shapes and sizes. I hope you will pick up one. And, so just for fun, we (Martingale) are offering an e-book to one of my followers, but you must leave me a comment about the book or favorite handmade gift you have received. If your comment is chosen by the random number generator, I hope you have provided an email address. Just saying. This contest closes midnight central daylight time, Labor Day, September 3. Winner will be announced next Wednesday, here, on my blog.
This is my project, Winterlude. Not the typical red and green, but it could be. I love decorating with blues, especially indigo, during the winter. The beautiful indigo floral is from Rachel Remembered and the stars and sawtooth border are a combination of indigo prints throughout my lines.
I hope you leave me a comment for a chance to win.
Back to BlockHeads....
My version of Corey's Patchwork Flower, Block 13
Moda BlockHeads2
This block is 6" x 12" finished
Isn't this a sweet set shot? LOL I love getting things out to create a photo. This block begged for a special photo on the little green bench.
Thanks Corey, for such a sweet block!
To download Corey's pattern, please CLICK HERE and you will go to her blog and her tips for putting the block together. My suggestion is to label your color choices on the pattern, or better yet, download Corey's line drawing for coloring before you cut. Did you know she offers a line drawing with each block? Pretty cool, I think! I cut too many background squares for the flip and sew corners. LOL. They will be welcome in another block I'm sure.
Be sure to visit all the other BlockHeads to see what they have made.

The blocks are growing, and I planned a shot but someone distracted me....
adorable Miss Molly
Closing out this week with 2 other cool cats, my grandkids, Reed and Madison.
Happy Sewing. Happy first days of School.
Happy end of Summer ( we still have a hot September ahead)
Until next time ~

I need that book. Your quilt in the book is very nice. I, too, love indigo quilts. Love the fabrics you used in the Blockhead block, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI have been eyeing this book as the authors are displaying their pretty projects. The best homemade gifts are always the ones I receive from my kiddo. From the ceramic hand prints to the hand drawn pictures I always cherish anything homemade as I know it was made from the heart.
ReplyDeleteI've been drooling over this book! I love quick and easy projects for Christmas---either to use for gifts or that I can actually finish and use that season. I just love that table runner on the cover---so fun and cheerful!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, this is a very sweet flower block! I can't wait to make it up!!
Gift-my mother has made a special Christmas ornament every year. My tree is decorated w/all her ornaments. It’s beautiful! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing your block - love the photo with the green chair. Your "cool cats" are adorable! So excited Martingale is doing another All Stars book - this looks as great as the others, so I'm sure it won't disappoint!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite hand made gift is a hardunger table runner that my aunt gave to me. She was an immaculate hand sewer and then she lost enough of her eyesight that she could no longer sew. She's been gone now for eight years and I wish that I could have learned her talent before she passed. I would love to win this book and make Winterlude in reds and creams! Thanks for this chance!
ReplyDeleteOh Betsy! I;m in love with Winterlude - makes the book a "must have". Those grands are just adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove Winterlude. Can’t wait to win the book!😺
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and the book!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for this book to be release. One of my most cherished hand made gifts is a spool holder made for me by my dad. He had made one in high school in wood shop and thought I would like one when I started quilting. It's in the shape of a dachshund with 5 spool holders on its back and a "vest" that holds a pair of scissors. Of course all hand made items I receive are cherished but this one holds a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful. Thank you for a chance to win a copy. Your grandkids are adorable!
ReplyDeleteMary
I am so looking forward to this book being released. It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteEvolving, refreshing, surprising, inviting. The quilt world is alive and well. Congratulations on this new release and thank you for adding your fibers to this amazing tapestry that is quilting.
ReplyDeleteI need this book so I can get some great Christmas gift giving ideas.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite handmade gifts are:
ReplyDelete1 Hand-embroidered pillow pillowcases with crocheted edges from my aunt.
2 a quilt top pieced and hand embroidered by my mother and her best friend.
All three women are gone now, but everytime I see my precious gifts I feel their love.
Betsy, my favorite handmade gifts were three wooden frames with sentiments from my daddy, mom and sister who have all passed years ago. My daughter got their words of love and signatures from cards I have treasured and saved. They were laser cut to perfection. Each time I go by them I feel their love. Beyond that I can't wait to get my hands on that book! Your little vignette with Corey's block is adorable. I need to make that block just for fun! Thanks! soardkgatfusedotnet
ReplyDeleteMerry Makers looks like a really fun book, full of great Christmas gifts to make or keep! I totally love your Winterlude quilt, i love indigo too!
ReplyDeleteYour 2 legged and 4 legged kiddos are awfully cute!
Thanks for a chance to win.
Carmen
My favorite gift is the thumbprint reindeer our daughter made when she was four. Such a magical age and such a special gift to have her thumbprint each Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIf all the projects of this book are as beautiful as Winterlude, I would be very happy to win it.My favorite handmade gift is a kingsised quilt for my bed.It was pieced by my sisters and I love it.Thanks for the give-away.Catherine from Bretagne in France
ReplyDeleteI have that book on my 'to buy' list. I can always use more Christmas gift ideas.

ReplyDeletelove the beautiful block you made! I think the best handmade gift I have received was a plaque made by a friend of mine. She took my high school graduation invitation and photo that I had sent to her and decoupaged then on a stained board so I could hang it on the wall. I still think of her when I see it.
ReplyDeleteI also can't wait to get this book! I adore the star on the front cover. I can't wait to see what other designs are inside!
I LOVE those little gift card envelopes! Sometimes I feel so inadequate just sending gift cards for a present, but making special envelopes for each one would really personalize them! SWEET!
ReplyDeleteI just love your quilt in the book. It is the perfect pattern for a collection fabric that I have waiting to use!
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite handmade gift was a small suitcase full of Barbie clothes made by my Mother. I don't know when she had the time. They were a fantastic gift, and I had such fun with tgem. When I had a daughter of my own, I really appreciated my Mother's gift when I made some Barbie clothes for her! Those tiny things were just about the end of my sanity!
ReplyDeleteI received the Mini Marvels book just recently and its fabulous! casands1@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteThe new book looks like another fun one. I'm with you, Betsy - I would go for those beautiful indigo stars!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some clever udeas in that book! One of my all time favorite hand made gifts from a friend was a sewing kit. I had cut it out, started it, then put it aside. She secretly took it and finished it for me. What an amazing surprise!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love indigo and white together and your Winterlude quilt is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove your "Winterlude"! The indigo color is perfect for winter! I received a trio of stacked pin keeps from a dear friend as a gift - it sits beside my sewing machine and it reminds me of her all the while stitching. Would love to win the e-book! Thanks to you and Martingale for the chance to win! HUGS... and stitches
ReplyDeleteMarvellous quilt Betsy even though indigo is not my favourite color. I confess my weakness for reds. I can not wait to see all the designs in the new book. My dear friend Nieves, a phenomenal cross sticher, gave me the most beautiful pinkeep, a lovely Blackbird design and somehow a kind of good luck charm. Thanks for the give-away! pinkflorals@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLove your indgo quilt in this new book...i will be adding this to my need to make list...
ReplyDeleteYour Winterlude quilt is absolutely ga ga gorgeous. It is now added to my to do list. My all time favorite handmade gift is a baby quilt my grandmother made for me over 60 yrs. ago. It is like a large 9 patch with 9 different baby faces/expressions embroidered on it. It is truly one of a kind that I will always cherish.
